TENSE
Recount text is one of the English texts that narrates the actions or activities of a character of its author. The purpose of this text is to entertain the reader or provide information to the reader. What Tenses are used in recount texts? Of course there are more than 1.
Recount text using 3 types of past tense where each word is composed using particles that have been agreed. Here are just a few of them:
1. Simple Past Tense
The Simple past tense is a form of the past tense. These Tenses use the second type of verbs, namely regular verbs and irregular verbs. The simple past tense :
( + ) S + verb 2 + O.
Example: She went to school.
(- ) S + did + not + verb 1 or S + to be (was/were) + not.
Example: I didn't have a very good dream last night.
(?) Did + S + verb 1 or was / were + S.
Example: did you sleep enough last night?
2. Past Continuous Tense
The Past continuous tense is a form of tenses that expresses an event taking place in the past. The Past continuous tense is:
( + ) S + was/were + present participle (ing).
Example: She was sleeping. The mother was waiting.
(- ) S + was/were + not + present participle (ing).
Example: She wasn't sleeping. The mother wasn't waiting.
(?) was / were + S + present participle (ing).
Example: Was she sleeping?
3. Past Perfect Tense
The Past perfect tense is a type of tense that states that an event took place in the past before any other event occurred. The formula of these tenses is:
( + ) S + had + past participle (V2).
Example: My mother had slept, They had come.
(- ) S + had + not + past participle (V2).
Example: My mother hadn't slept, They hadn't come.
(?) Had + S + past participle (V2)?
Did my mother-in-law sleep?
